The Women in Construction Group was launched formally
on 21 September 2007 at the Hong Kong Club. The launch party was
attended by 90 guests. Teresa Cheng SC, who is also an engineer and
perhaps one of the best known women working in and for the
construction industry, was the guest speaker. The launch raised
more than HK$50,000 for the Lighthouse Club’s charities. The
response to the launch of Women in Construction has been
overwhelming and adds both a new dimension and new thinking to the
Club.
The aim of the Women in Construction Group is to
create a forum for new ideas to assist women within the construction
industry. Its monthly and quarterly events allow women a greater
opportunity to network with fellow construction professionals.
The Group will support the Club’s charitable work
through fundraising initiatives, social networking and educational
activities. Thus, the Group furthers the objectives of The
Lighthouse Club.
The Group also addresses specific site safety
concerns relating to women.
The Women in Construction Group holds monthly get
togethers on the third Thursday of every month at selected venues.
It also holds quarterly networking and fundraising events.
